Hello World

Quote of the day: A day without sunshine is like, you know, night. -- Anonymous

So, I had the same kind of day as yesterday-- went to the zoo, helped with two classes, walked around the zoo (only this time we did Africa (yesterday we did North America) lions, giraffes, ect) and I handled a beautiful, lazy Ball Python named Saw. If you want an idea of what Saw looks, like, go HERE.

But that's not what I'm going to talk about today. Today, I'm going to talk about stupid people. There are all kinds of stupid people, but the people I want to talk about are the kinds of people who are ignorant and refuse to learn. An example: Today, as we were taking the kids down for pick-up from Zoo Camp, a wild black rat snake (picture) came out of the bushes and started to go across the road to the flamingo enclosure. Now, you see, the rat snakes at the zoo are so used to people that they don't attack anyone. Not like snakes do anyways. Snakes only attack when threatened. ANYWAYS... there's this day-care group in front of us as we're walking to the car loop. Missy, our group leader, tells our group that there is a snake and to keep the kids from going over and touching it. So, we move the kids to the other side of the walkway. The daycare group's chaperon starts screaming "HOLY SNAP CRACKLE POP!!!" and gets all the kids screaming because he's screaming. Missy was trying to tell him that if he stopped screaming and just moved out of the way, the snake wouldn't do anything. But, he just kept screaming and refused to move his kids. Talk about an idiot.

So, my group is having to have our kids walk OVER the snake, while the other group is freaking out and not listening to an expert. Some people. It annoys to no end when someone is mistaken about something, but doesn't care about the truth. And he makes everyone around him terrified at the same time, because they are put under the same misconceptions that he is. It hurts everyone when someone is stupid and ignorant and refuses to learn otherwise. If he had just listened to Missy and stayed calm to keep his kids calm, then there wouldn't have been a problem. But the way he acted was stupid and irresponsible, ESPECIALLY around HIS group of FIVE YEAR OLDS!!! How are they going to interpret his screaming? Huh? It was in reaction to the snake. Instead of letting them get educated about the snake, he let them be terrified. Things like that are going to follow them for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember their leader, the man who was taking care of them, being terrified of a snake. So, they will take that with them and the next time they see a black rat snake, they will be scared, instead of educated. ARGH! It just kills me that these kids could have had a chance to appreciate all that the snakes do for them, but instead they were scared. How awful is that?

On a brighter note, however, my new favorite animal is the giraffe. They really are beautiful creatures, if you've ever had a chance to see them up close. I was just struck by their grace and power today. Autumn, the female giraffe at the zoo, is so gorgeous. She had beautiful, thick eyelashes and it looks like she has a thick ring of eyeliner on. She is outstandingly smart and curious. Haha. I'm in love with this giraffe. Also, there is a lovely little ocelot at our zoo, her name is Lola. She looks exactly like my cat, Comet, only she is tawny and he is gray. But the markings remain the same. (she's just a bit bigger than him. But just a smidgen.)

I'm super tired now, so I'm going to go. I'm done ranting for the day.
